Can I get two free credit reports per year, one under federal law and another under my state's law?

Yes, but only if you happen to live in Colorado, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Vermont. Residents of these states can request a free copy of their credit report under state law in addition to the free copy available under federal law. For the free report under state law, they should contact the credit reporting agencies directly and not use the federal credit report request process.

The free annual federal credit report Web site is https://www.annualcreditreport.com. Many experts recommend ordering credit reports quarterly from one of the three national credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion) to have a snapshot of one's credit report regularly, as opposed to ordering all three credit reports at once (federally or via one's state law).
