Since 1983, the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) has been promoting the practice of fee-only financial planning which does not involve the sale of financial products. Fee-only compensation indicates that an advisor does not accept commissions or compensation of any kind related to the products that he or she recommends.
