Have a question? Try asking one of our Experts

Our Fox Trotter has a sarcoid on his inner hind right leg. We had it surgically removed in July, but it grew back. After surgery, the vet gave us some sarcoid cream from the University of Liverpool, England, from one of the top vets there who researches sarcoids. We have had to apply three sessions of the cream, in August., September, and October, and still the sarcoid returns. What other treatment is more effective that we should try? We do not have a lot of money to put into this but want our horse to be free of sarcoids.

You could try a topical medication like XXterra, and apply it four days in a row, stop for three days, then repeat. It may take up to a month. Make sure to exfoliate the lesion so as not to apply medication on a scab. Other treatments are cryotherapy, or cold therapy, and/or chemotherapeutic agents injected into the lesions.
