Have a question? Try asking one of our Experts

We are in a second year drought area. I am looking to buy rolls of hay to feed horses over the winter. I have found someone who has foxtail millet rolls at a good price. The rolls look good, and the seller says he has sold a lot to horse owners and they love it. I have never run into this type of hay before and usually try to get timothy/orchardgrass mix. Any information on foxtail millet hay fed to horses would be appreciated.

Please review the publications linked below from the University of Nebraska and the University of Wyoming prior to purchasing foxtail millet for your horses. They both indicate some concern with the feeding of this forage to horses.
