What forages can be planted for winter grazing for goats in north Florida?

The cool-season grasses (rye grass, rye, oats, triticale, and fescue) provide valuable winter and spring grazing when the warm-season perennial grasses are dormant. The cool-season legumes that can be grown in north Florida include crimson clover, white clover, arrowleaf clover, and red clover. It may be difficult to plant these forages in Ocala and areas farther south because of the lack of moisture in the soil. For other areas, contact your local Cooperative Extension agent for a list of recommended forages. Also see
