What is colostrum?

  • Colostrum is the very first mammary secretion of female mammals after giving birth to newborn(s), and its timely ingestion is very essential for healthy newvorn(s).
  • Colostrum is full of immunoglobulins and nutrients.
  • Immunoglobulins are antibodies that fight against diseases and keep newborns healthy for few months, by which time newborns will develop their own antibodies. Other components present in colostrum fulfill energy, protein, water, and other nutrient requirements of newborns.
  • Ingestion of a required amount of immunoglobulins within 24 to 48 hours of birth is crucial for the survival, health status, and growth of newborns.
