Direct marketing is the process by which the producer sells directly to the consumer. It can also be thought of as shopping with a “human face.”
Some advantages of a direct marketing system include:
• Consumers who are tired of supermarket factory-raised meat will have better access to fresh products.
• Direct marketing can give the farmer a larger share of the food dollar and possibly a higher return on each unit sold.
• Farmers who are unable to compete in or are locked out of traditional markets can build a thriving business.
• Some farmers who direct market can add value to their products to increase their profit margin.
