Community supported agriculture is a concept in which individuals pledge their support to a farm operation so that the farm becomes either legally or philosophically the community’s farm. As a result, growers and consumers provide mutual support and share the risks and benefits of food production.
There are three basic types of CSAs:
1) The farmer owns all the land and equipment and does all of the work, while the members provide capital by buying a share in the farm.
2) The farmer owns the land and equipment and the members provide capital and are an important part of the labor force.
3) The land and equipment are owned by the CSA and the members of the CSA are responsible for doing all the work.
