Niche marketing can be a component of indirect or direct marketing. It is the process of targeting consumers who prefer a certain product and then fulfilling that need. For example, a niche market could target consumers who:
* have a preference for grass-fed goats or sheep;
* want meat that is free of chemicals and produced organically; and
* have ethnic preferences.
To target ethnic consumers (e.g., Hispanics, Muslims, Jews), breeding programs must be designed to ensure that goats and sheep are made available to meet a year-round need, including for such holidays as Ramadan, Christmas, and Easter. Therefore, producers must be familiar with the various ethnic calendars to know the carcass preference of each ethnic group.
