What causes some of the banana leaves to be torn and rolled into a tube?

Last Updated: March 24, 2010

The caterpillar of the banana skipper moth (Pelopidas thrax (Linnaeus)) rolls the leaf to create shelter for itself and feeds inside the roll. Unroll the curled leaf and you should find a white, powdery caterpillar with a black head. Parasitic wasps keep the population under control.
