I have papaya fruits with round spots. Is this the papaya ring spot or something else?

The papaya ring spot on the fruit generally has dark green rings, sometimes in concentric circles or circles inside of circles, and can be easily seen on green fruit. Fungal spots (there are several different kinds) are mostly solid circles of blackened or brown tissue of various sizes. Most will appear when the fruit is ripe and rot into soft tissue. For more information, see the article Colletotrichum gloeosporioides.
