Pure wood ash can be used for landfill cover. When wood ash is used as a soil amendment it recycles essential plant nutrients and raises soil pH. Regulations prevent mixed wood and coal ash from being used in the construction industry which is the primary market for pure coal ash. Among other uses, coal ash is used for concrete and cement production, road-base materials, and highway fill. If the ash is being sold, pure coal ash has a higher value than when mixed with wood ash.
