Have your furnace checked by a qualified service professional person annually. Various factors can cause your heating system to not burn fuel sources efficiently, and can result in too little or too much fuel burned while heating a home. The technician should adjust the combustion efficiency. The technician will also check for things such as cracked heat exchangers that could potentially allow harmful gases to enter a home. If you suspect fuel or exhaust leaks, contact your utility company right away. Some regular maintenance that homeowners can do is to: *Make sure outside combustion air intakes are free from blockage. *Check exhaust vents for obstructions. *Check furnace filters monthly, or according to manufacturer recommendations. For more information on maintenance, see the ENERGY STAR® Maintenance Checklist.
