Do-it-yourself testing for radon is inexpensive and easy to do. If you need to know the level of radon gas quickly, you can start with a short-term (2-7 day) test, which costs about $15.00/kit. To obtain a greater year average it is recommended that a long-term (up to one year) test kit be used, costing about $25.00/kit. To achieve an accurate radon reading, it is very important to read and follow the placement instructions that come with the kit. The radon action level established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is 4 picocuries per liter. To order a kit and learn more about radon in your state, talk to your state radon contact or the national radon program. EPA Radon Testing information
