The only way to get out of debt without money is to file bankruptcy. The stated goal of the federal bankruptcy law is to provide honest debtors with a fresh start. It is generally recommended that one consult with an attorney with experience in the personal bankruptcy field.

Bankruptcy will be noted in your credit file for up to 10 years and could prevent you from getting credit, so proceed with caution. In addition, there are debts that bankruptcy does not discharge. These include child and family support obligations and student loans. Be sure to check on debts of yours that cannot be discharged by bankruptcy.
