If you are concerned with the gas range producing unhealthy combustion gases and carbon monoxide, changing to an electric range may be a good choice.

If energy efficiency is your primary consideration, utility prices for electricity, propane, and natural gas vary quite a bit around the U.S. during the year. If your gas range is labeled ENERGY STARĀ®, then there may not be a need to change it to an electric range.

You should consider your cooking habits, since many cooks have definite preferences when it comes to cooking with gas or on an electric range.

If your gas range is not ENERGY STAR, then you should consider replacing it with an electric or gas range with the ENERGY STAR label. You may also find energy efficient appliance rebates in your state or through your utility company.

The U.S. Department of Energy has more information about ENERGY STAR labeled appliances.
