Can compact fluorescent lamps/lightbulbs (CFLs) with a dimmer switch?

Yes, however the CFL must be labeled for use with dimmers. Also, the dimming switch must be designated for fluorescent. There is a new dimming switch on the market that can work for both incandescent and fluorescent, but normally they are dedicated to either incandescent or fluorescent lighting.  Visit Energy Star to learn more about CFL's and their specific usage.
