Why does my horse shake her head up and down at me?

Assuming that your horse does not have any reason for this action such as injury, fly buzzing, or ear mites, then we might speculate that he is merely communicating his dominance to you.

Check your horse's ears to eliminate the potential threat and irritation of ear mites. If ear mites are found, contact your veterinarian for treatment.
