Can interior sprinklers help my home survive a wildfire?

Interior sprinklers won't stop a wildfire from entering your home but can limit damage by confining the fire to one room. The amount of smoke damage may be more extensive. Typically, attics aren't sprinkled, so if fire gets into your attic (for example, an ember entering through a vent or fire entering the attic through the soffit), the interior sprinklers probably won't help. However, adding pilot sprinklers to your attic may help prevent ignition.

In the highest fire hazard zones, some WUI codes require that fire sprinklers be installed in the building. In this situation, the fire sprinkler system would reduce the potential for an interior fire to become uncontrolled and spread to the wildland. Fire sprinklers can also be beneficial in “Prepare, Stay, and Defend” scenarios when residents stay within the safety of their home rather than evacuate.
