I already have a Class A roof covering. Should I be concerned about any other roofing issues?

The fire test classification for the roof coverings is for the material covering the roof and the underlying substrate. Other roofing issues that you should be concerned about include the "roof edge" (for example, where your gutter meets the roof edge and where the roof meets siding), particularly where debris and burning embers can accumulate. If ignited by embers, the accumulated debris will result in a flaming exposure to the edge of the roof or the adjacent siding. Will they provide protection similar to that of your Class A roof covering? Burning embers from another burning building and from burning vegetation, including those some distance away, represent a significant threat to the survivability of your home in a wildfire situation. You should also inspect your roof to make sure it is in good condition, and repair or replace it when needed. See FAQ 39226 for information on fire ratings of roof coverings.
