A fire-safe door is well-maintained and does not allow debris to accumulate in adjacent areas. Doors can have a noncombustible skin. Wood doors should meet the minimum thickness requirements (typically 1¼ to 1½ in. in the field). If a door has a window, it should be tempered (a code requirement for a number of years now). Sometimes, noncombustible doors have windows that are held in the door with a vinyl product, so conditions that would result in a radiant exposure on the door should be avoided.
