In many communities, your local fire department or state Division of Forestry will provide a free defensible space inspection of your property. Your state’s Cooperative Extension office may have expertise available to assist you in creating defensible space. You can also find helpful information at Firewise.org, Federal land management agencies, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the American Red Cross.
