Wildfire Home

Why is it important to have a “noncombustible area” immediately adjacent to my house?

Last Updated: October 02, 2009

Windblown embers produced by an approaching wildfire are often deposited in the area immediately adjacent to the house. If they land on something easily ignitable, a fire can start and flames can come into direct contact with the house. Consequently, it is critical that this area utilize ignition-resistant materials, such as rock, concrete, brick, lawn, and irrigated flowers.
