Your home may have suffered structural damage from the fire. Check roofs and floors to be sure they are safe before entering. Check and see if utilities are working. Utilities can be disconnected by firefighting agencies that protected your home. Contact your utility providers (water, natural gas, and electricity) to restore service. If you smell gas, shut off the supply at the main valve, leave immediately, and call the gas company.
After you determine the structure is safe and the utilities in good working order, check for burning embers on your roof, in the rain gutter, on the porch, or anywhere else on your property. Extinguish embers and smoldering debris, and check back frequently over the course of several days to make sure they are completely out.
