For some, a burned landscape is an exciting time of renewal; for others it is tragic devastation. Thus, beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder.

Realistically, it takes three to five years for natural and planted vegetation to reclaim a burned landscape to what could be generally attractive to many people. An early assessment of the severity of the burn and the likelihood of rapid natural regrowth of desirable plants is a great starting point, and the decision to assist natural regrowth with planting will be more successful if made by the first growing season after the fire.
