Actually, moving bark beetle-infested firewood to an area where native conifers of a different species or deciduous trees are growing is a good way to prevent the spread of the beetles. Moving firewood at least three miles from its host will prevent the spread of the beetles from the firewood back to the host forest. Remember that even one host tree within a three-mile radius could be attacked, so be sure you know the host type before transporting infested wood to a new area.
