Horses Home

My concern is the drainage in my horses' stalls. My horses are in pipe corrals with an overhang over half of the stall. In the winter, their stalls become terrible mud pits. I am wanting to take the time to dig everything down and fill it with the proper materials. How should I do this?

It is likely that the mud is being generated by the water running off the overhang. Adding proper guttering to the sheds and diverting the water away would be a good start. You can also use the same materials in your shed as you would to create a sacrifice lot — a hard base, geotextile fabric, 6 to 8 inches of draining stone, and 3 to 4 inches of a sifted lime or something similar.
