Sampling is removing and/or examining a portion of an entire set (i.e., examining three leaves per plant on 20 plants in a 10–acre field) in order to make assumptions about a population. Sampling when used with pest monitoring, allows for the pest control contractor to measure the amount of insects in a given area.
