Gradual (also known as simple) metamorphosis in insects is where the immature stages are very similar in appearance to the adult stage, except smaller and without sexual capabilities. In this type of development, the egg stage is followed by a series of nymphal stages, and end with the adult stage. No pupal stage is present. For gradual metamorphic insects, adults and nymphs have the same habits, eat the same food, and live in the same environment.
