The shelter need not be elaborate but should provide protection from the elements, particularly if kidding will occur during periods of inclement weather. Often, existing buildings can be adapted for goats. Three-sided shelters that face south work well in many areas. Greenhouses, hoop houses, shade structures, and poly hutches may offer low-cost alternatives to traditional housing.

If you kid in a moderate climate, trees or a wind break may be all that is required for shelter.  However, you need to recognize that extra precautions may be needed if the does are kidding in wet, cold weather when the kids will not generate enough body heat to keep themselves warm.
