How critical is fencing in raising goats?

Fencing is a most critical factor in raising goats on pasture. There is nothing more frustrating than having to constantly chase goats back into the pasture.  Fencing needs to not only keep the goat in the lot but also should be designed to keep the predators away from the goats.

Fencing will also be the greatest expense, other than the initial cost of the animals. One good permanent fencing is 4-foot woven wire with barbed wire along the top. Some grazers are also successfully using four or five strands of high-tensile electric wire which is less expensive than woven wire. Please see Goat Pastures Fences for additional information.
