Cogeneration is also referred to as a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system. These systems generate electricity and then capture and use the otherwise wasted heat energy byproducts to heat a facility or process. Cogeneration is a very adaptable option to produce heating and cooling for large buildings. Vermont Fuels for Schools Program is an example of using cogeneration to heat buildings. Cogeneration is more common in the northern states. This FAQ was adapted from Wood to Energy and used with permission.
