The construction costs for a wood-fired plant are similar to those of a coal-fired plant but it is a difficult comparison to make. Coal-fired power plants are much larger (500 MW for coal vs. 20 - 50 MW for wood). Economies of scale and variability in the cost of different construction materials can greatly influence the total construction cost. It is very difficult to compare the cost of construction of a coal-fired plant and a wood-fired plant.
