What kind of wood can be burned in wood-fired combustion equipment?

Last Updated: December 15, 2009

View as web page

Any type of wood, woody biomass, or wood debris can be burned to produce heat. However, because the burning properties and material handling requirements differ between different types of woody fuels not all types are suitable for all equipment. Equipment manufacturers typically design the process for a specific range of fuel properties. Although there are differences in the structure and chemical makeup of different wood species that affect the burning characteristics they are minor compared to the differences in moisture content and the size and shape of the wood fuel particles.
