Wood cannot meet all of our countries energy needs; at most only about 10% nationally. However, it can help to meet our needs by providing a secure, renewable energy source. On a local level wood can sustainably provide the energy to heat buildings, provide electricity for manufactures, or even provide all the heat and power needs for communities if the community and system are designed for efficient energy consumption pegged to the projected sustainable supply of wood fuel. Planners of bioenergy facilities must consider the long-term availability of woody biomass as well as the potential demand of the biomass for other markets or products, to insure that there is enough resource to sustain the supply.
