While some trade-offs are location-speciļ¬c, here are a few general trade-offs communities can consider in deciding whether a wood energy facility is right for them. First, does the community want their energy dollars spent 'at home' or be exported outside the community to bring in the needed energy. Spending energy dollars within the region not only keeps those dollars in the local economy, but can stimulate investment in developing the local energy supply infrasturcture. Second, is the community prepared for increased truck traffic that this supply infrastructure will bring? Will roadbeds and bridges need upgrading? Will the citizenry accept more trucks on loocal roads? Third, will increased forest activity adversely affect the region's recreational/tourism industry? These are examples of some of the larger, more generic, questions that face communities considering wood energy facilities.
