Have a question? Try asking one of our Experts

We have moved to a farm where the last cotton crop was harvested in fall 2008. We want to start grazing our horses on the grasses that are coming up, but need to know if 2,4-D can be used to control the weeds that are also coming up. If so, what kinds of wait periods, etc., need to be followed?

Several weeds are poisonous or detrimental to horses. 2,4-D will control most broadleaf weeds, and will not injure most beneficial grasses. You will need to read the herbicide label carefully as each formulation of 2,4-D has slightly different grazing restrictions. Most formulations of 2,4-D have a grazing restriction of a minimum of seven days, up to 21 days.
