Foals will typically get scours when the mare is in foal heat. But in your case, the foal is one day old and has these symptoms, which could mean the foal has an infection of some type. In addition, a foal with scours runs the risk of dehydration from excess water loss. It is advisable to contact your local veterinarian to assess the situation and treat the foal for prolonged scours as soon as possible.

If the foal has scours, it is probably soiling itself. It is advisable to clean the rectum area, under the tail, hips, and hocks to ensure the scours does not burn the hair off the horse's hide.
