Why do I need to sign an enrollment contract when my child starts child care?

Many child care centers and family child care providers now require parents/guardians to sign an enrollment contract when a family begins care. This is often a document that outlines some of the business aspects of the program such as hours of operation, late pick-up penalties, tuition/payment fees and due dates, illness policy, any days the program or provider is closed, and procedures for withdrawing your child from the program.

The purpose of an enrollment contract is to protect both the family and the child care program. By signing the contract, you certify that you understand all the obligations as a parent, and the program is obligated to abide by the guidelines set forth for the families. Enrollment contracts are not binding by law; however, an enrollment contract can be used as evidence in a court of law, should that be necessary.
