If you do not make your full mortgage payment by the monthly due date, your credit history will be damaged. Regardless of changes in a borrower's personal life, such as widowhood or divorce, creditors expect payment in full. That being said, you might want to contact the creditor and discuss possible options to lower your monthly payments until you can sell your house. Do not fall behind on payments without first contacting your creditor. We would like your feedback on this Personal Finance Frequently Asked Question.
