If a horse is allowed to come and go as it pleases from stall to pasture and back again, will it return to its own stall, or can there be conflict with other horses for a particular stall?

Horses will come and go out of the barn as they please, but an individual horse will not necessarily go back in the same stall each time. The dominant horse will pick the stall he or she wants, and the one lowest on the pecking order will get the last stall or stay in the barn alley. All the horses may stay in the barn alley and not go into stalls.
