Your minimum payment may have been raised due to a penalty interest rate. This often happens if you make a late payment or charge over your credit limit. It could also have been raised due to a change in the credit card issuer's policies and not because of anything that you did wrong.
The best thing that you can do is to contact a nonprofit credit counseling agency (see www.nfcc.org) for assistance. They may be able to negotiate concessions from your creditors. Credit counseling agencies will work with people in debt as long as their clients have a stream of monthly income with which to make payments toward a debt management plan. If you will miss making a full payment before meeting with a credit counseling agency, contact the creditor before the due date and explain your intentions to seek help. Bankruptcy should be considered only as a last resort.
