Have a question? Try asking one of our Experts

I like to cook chicken halves on a charcoal grill. I have been experimenting with microwaving the chickens prior to putting them on the grill. I would like to know if there is a recommended time for microwaving. I know I have to get the chicken to 165 degrees. But I also do not want to dry the chicken out too much.

Here is a method to try: Arrange the chicken in a 13x9 inch baking dish (or smaller to fit your microwave). Cover with plastic wrap; vent. Microwave on HIGH for 15 minutes, turning the dish after 8 minutes. Place the chicken on a grill over medium-hot coals (coals will have a slight glow). Grill, covered, 5 to 10 minutes on EACH side or until the chicken is tender and browned. Be sure to use a meat thermometer to check for a temperature of 165 degrees to be sure the chicken is thoroughly cooked.
