Can not using credit cards affect my credit history?

Yes, it can, especially if you have not regularly used other types of credit (for example, car loan, mortgage, etc.) either. Sometimes having no credit history is as damaging as having a negative credit history. This is because lenders have no recorded information with which to judge how your debts have been handled. Having no credit history basically means that you are "invisible" to lenders, which could make it difficult to get credit in the future.
