What should I do to ensure the safety of my own drinking water well?

You are responsible for making sure that the water from your private well is safe to drink.

The most important thing you can do is have your drinking water tested every year. Check with your local Cooperative Extension office or Health Department for information on what to test for.

Learn about what is happening in and around your home that could pose a potential problem to your drinking water supply. Consider where you store and how you use lawn and garden chemicals, car care products, and other potentially hazardous products.
