Can bacteria in my drinking water cause stomach ulcers?

Bacteria in drinking water can cause stomach ulcers if the water is contaminated with Helicobacter pylori. This bacterium is now known to be associated with a high percentage of stomach ulcers in humans. However, a simple method to test for this organism in water is not yet available.
