What are some of the indicators of drinking water well contamination from a septic system?

The following are some signs that indicate potential drinking water contamination from nearby septic systems:
a) A well water test showing E.coli bacteria present;
b) A well water test showing unusually high level of nitrate or nitrite;
c) Unexplained illnesses in household such as gastrointestinal problems;
d) Musty odors coming from the well water; and/or
e) Neighbors finding septic system contaminants in their water.

Annual testing of well water is recommended.
