This is a program giving EPA authority to establish procedures for development, implementation, and assessment of demonstration projects designed to protect critical aquifer areas designated as the sole or principal source of drinking water for a community. Authorized under the 1986 Safe Drinking Water Act amendments, these SSAs can also be designated under the Clean Water Act and receive the highest priority source water protection efforts.
