The Social Security Administration will send you and your spouse, about two months prior to your birth dates, statements showing what you have paid in during your working years. One page also shows an estimate of what your monthly benefit will be.

In addition, Social Security has a great Web site at www.ssa.gov/.
You can estimate your benefits at www.ssa.gov/onlineservices/. You may also wish to consult with your accountant or financial adviser or visit a local Social Security office for more information.
