I am looking at a four-year-old off-track Thoroughbred for use as an eventer. He is currently higher in the back end. Will his withers catch up? At what age do Thoroughbreds stop growing?

If this Thoroughbred is a full four years old, then he has probably reached his maximum height unless there is some warm-blood influence in his pedigree. Research shows that Thoroughbreds reach nearly 90% of their mature height by 18 months. If the horse is four years old, it is unlikely that he will develop a more level topline from withers to croup.
